my experience as Volunteer January 27th 2018

We went in without knowing what to expect as students from the organisation but in the end as we left we definetly felt we had an enriching experience. It was most definitely a humbling experience walking through the slums that were situated near the organisation and interacting with the children and adults alike. t he children that don't attend the school named Patel's school were gathered around us and we taught them songs and games. Upon asking them why they didn't go to school most of them told us they weren't interested and so we then spent the day teaching them what they would learn at school like rhymes and the parents also looked over us so they too would learn how useful it is to send a child to school and thus persuade the children to attend school. Overall it was a thrilling and educational experience and we thank the organisation for sending us for this visit. Divya Denny   January 27th 2018 T

Our experience at the Scead Foundation has been eye-opening.

Our experience at the Scead Foundation has been eye-opening. While most of us did have experience with volunteer work, venturing into slums and actually talking to the people who lived there wasn't something that any of us had done. At first, the idea of approaching strangers and talking to them about something as personal as why they choose to not send their children to school was a task that we found quite daunting. But on actually interacting with the people in the slums we realized that they were nothing but eager to share their story with us. There was an ease with which they spoke about their lives that we did not expect to find and we found ourselves listening to the rapt with attention to them. I think it's also safe to say that we did go into the volunteer work with biases about how we may have to convince children about why education is important. But upon interacting with them we found that most of them were, in fact, enthusiastic about going to school and would li...

My Work with SCEAD Foundation Bangalore

My  Interview with Daniel  Siju Thomas Daniel , Founder, SCEAD Foundation  Daniel has been an inspiration to the many volunteers who have been lucky enough to work under him. Tarshish Kurien with Daniel  He has been a visionary from the beginning. The roots of social work began to grow from the early age of 17 when he and his fellow college mates took turns to work with a government school named Banjara Palya on the outskirts of Bangalore, often bunking classes. They drew up a schedule: with a fixed timetable of who would bunk when in order to seamlessly visit the school and teach the underprivileged children and reinforce the importance of education. In a country such as India which has remained firmly behind other developed nations in spite of a huge wealth of natural resources and opportunities to innovate, Daniel’s SCEAD is paving the way for other such NGOs to continue their work and realise the dream of full literacy. India lags behin...
