JUNE 2023

On their first day at the school, the interns arrived promptly at 9:30 am, the designated reporting time. They had a conversation with the founder of the school, who provided them with valuable insights, and then accompanied them on a tour of the nursery classes. Coincidentally, it was International Environmental Day, and the school had organized a program to commemorate the occasion. The students showcased their talents through dance performances, skits, and speeches. One of the interns had the opportunity to share a few words as well, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Following the lunch break, the interns were assigned to different classes. They approached the classrooms as a group, introducing themselves to the students and getting acquainted with the ongoing lessons. Dharshini took charge of grade 1, where she focused on teaching the students about numbers. Edwin was assigned to grade 3, where he explained the distinctions between herbs, shrubs, trees, and creepers by creating diagrams. Meanwhile, the intern assigned to grade 4 supervised an activity involving the creation of bags using newspaper and waste paper. They closely monitored the students, offering assistance and guidance whenever needed.

Throughout the day, the interns actively engaged with the students, promoting a positive learning environment and fostering a sense of enthusiasm among them. Their presence and assistance were greatly appreciated by both the teachers and the children, setting a promising tone for the rest of their internship.

JULY 2023

During their internship at SCEAD Foundation, the interns had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the lives of children living in slum neighborhoods. Their main activities involved engaging with the children, playing games such as Catch, Kho Kho, Cricket, and kanche (marbles), and initiating conversations to gather data about their educational status and comprehension abilities. The interns also aimed to motivate the children by offering chocolates as rewards for their participation in the games.

Through their experiences, the interns gained valuable insights into the challenges faced by slum dwellers in fulfilling their basic needs. They realized that acquiring even the most basic necessities of life can be incredibly difficult in such communities. The interns expressed their gratitude to SCEAD Foundation for providing them with an opportunity to interact with and learn from the children in the slums.

Overall, the interns' internship experience enabled them to understand that happiness can be found in the simplest of things. They recognized that despite the hardships they faced, the children they interacted with were able to find joy in the little moments and experiences, which served as a profound lesson for the interns.
