FIGHT CANCER AND HIV CAMPAIGN    ON 6 TH DECEMBER 2012 SCEAD FOUNDATION India  organized an awareness campaign for   cancer and   HIV   on 6 th December 2012. More than 600 students from a government school in Jayanagar, AIESEC Bangalore , Born Free ,Christ University, M.S. Ramaiah college ,BIA school and SCEAD volunteers were a part of this walk.

SCEAD Foundation India – Experience Report – I am A nnasophie,  a Masters student from Hamburg, Germany. I worked for SCEAD Foundation India for six weeks, from August until September 2012.  The first week, I was sent to Mandya to work in the Shahalaya Children’s Care Center adopted by SCEAD . It is an    orphanage for HIV-positive children. In the beginning, it was quite hard due to several reasons. Of course, I know about this awful disease, but before my stay at the orphanage, I never had any contact with people who were infected by this virus. It was hard seeing these little, lovely kids and knowing that they have been critically ill since birth. In addition, the kids and Mangalamar (mother of one of the kids; she works at the orphanage) speak barely any English. So, it wasn’t easy to communicate. In the beginning, I felt helpless, because I didn’t know what to do or how to help. But then I realized that it’s not possible to solve all the problem...

                   SCEAD foundation held organised a  World Literacy Day March, held on Saturday,  8 th of September, in front of the BIA school in Jayanagar. This event started  at 10:00 a.m. in front of BIA where 600 students of BIA, City College, Jain College, National College and M.S Ramiah had  distributed tagged pencils to the public and marched towards two different government schools.  We collected books from school students which were distributed to government schools and orphanage. A this was my second trip to India, I can’t really say I experienced a huge cultural shock, although even on my last day I thought that I was going to go out and get hit by a bus because the traffic here is simply crazy!                 You can’t really compile a list about India without listing the reasons why it is known as “Incredible India” throughout the world. For me, the biggest reason isn’t the amazing towering landmarks or the flavorful food, for me, the thing that makes India truly Indian is its people.                 In India, you experience all sorts of social approaches, you can be swindled by a dishonest auto driver, you can be warmly greeted by a child on the street, you can be dragged into an intense conversation with a complete stranger or even be shown around town absolutely for free, as was the case for us when...

SCEAD Foundation will be hosting an event at Bangalore International Academy against all kinds of war, specifically nuclear warfare. A large map will be presented, showing what happens after a nuclear device is detonated and it's effects on the surrounding environment for the following years. There will also be a papier-machê bomb on display made by the NGO's volunteers and local students. International participants are going to help develop the project.
